8 Now a new ^aking arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. 9 And ^bhe said to his people, “Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are ^{▼▼Or more and mightier than we}too many and too mighty for us. 10 Come, let us ^ddeal ^{▼▼Or wisely}shrewdly with them, otherwise they will multiply, and ^{▼▼Lit it will come about when war occurs that}in the event of war, they will also join those who hate us, and fight against us and ^{▼▼Lit go up from}depart from the land.” 11 So they appointed ^htaskmasters over them to oppress them with ^{▼▼Lit their burdens
